People are Running the New Gofogle Doodle
The record is already down to 11 seconds.
Google has updated its logo to coincide with the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony. Many people don`t realize was the amount of effort put into this Google Doodle. It wasn`t only a logo changeand a full-blown RPGfeaturing anime-themed cutscenes.
It`s still available on Google`s home page. The game lets players taking on the role of LuckyThe Cat. Lucky is able to talk to other charactersand play mini-games. But of coursethe same goes for any game`s launchthe speedrunning community isn`t far behind, and the race is on to get the fastest time for one of the RPG`s minigames – a time that`s already reduced to 11 seconds.
The 11-second record was achieved by three runners: ExaminationMassive95, stratpat1964, and dishadow99. The times were shared with speedrun, and also cover the climbing minigame in the RPG. The racein this category is extremely close with the previous record set at 12 seconds.
Google Doodles have created a community for speedrunning, and not just to celebrate the 2020 Olympics. An arcade game was added to the Google homepage to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pac-Man. Many players attempt to win the most points, with some running to become the fastest. It`s clearly a very optimized run, as the difference between records in the leaderboards lies in milliseconds, with the world record taking 46 seconds and 567 milliseconds.
However, the Tokyo Olympics Google Doodle was not able to be included in this year’s Summer Games Done Quick. The event was a host to over 100 speedrunsacross a variety of games, and as always, raised funds to Doctors Without Borders. The speedrunning community raised $2897,000which is the third highest amount of charity funds in the history of the event, despite being changed to a live show.
